My Experience for Life of Pi

Ray Cooley

I recently read Life of Pi by Yann Martel and it was an unforgettable journey. I laughed, I cried and I was completely enthralled by the story of a young boy’s courage and resilience.

The story begins on a boat with Pi, his family, and some animals from their zoo on a voyage to Canada. When a violent storm hits, Pi is thrown from the boat and into the Pacific Ocean. He eventually reaches an island made up of meerkats and then embarks on a journey that tests his faith in both himself and the world around him.

Throughout Pi’s journey, he finds solace in two unlikely companions – Richard Parker, a Bengal tiger, and an orangutan named Orange Juice! As they make their way across the ocean on a small raft, we get to witness Pi’s determination to survive despite all odds. He battles hunger, thirst and fear while never losing hope that he will reach land one day.

Finally, after 227 days at sea, Pi and Richard Parker reach Mexico and it is here where Pi’s incredible story comes to an end. This book has truly been an amazing experience for me; one that I would highly recommend to anyone looking for an uplifting yet thought-provoking read. It is truly a tale of adventure, faith and strength that will stay with you long after you have finished the last page.

What I don’t Like

2. May not have the same impact as the original book
3. Some readers may find the movie adaptation of the story disappointing
4. Reception has been mixed among critics
5. High cost when compared to other books in the same genre
6. Not suitable for young readers due to mature themes and language
7. Special effects and visuals may be dated when compared to more modern films
