I’ve heard a lot about Salt to the Sea, so I decided to give it a try.
At first, I was hesitant but as soon as I started reading, I couldn’t put it down. The story follows four young refugees in World War II and their journey to safety. It’s a heartbreaking story, yet somehow Ruta Sepetys manages to make it beautiful.

The characters were so real that I felt like I was right there with them. Every emotion they experienced was palpable and I found myself crying at the end of each chapter. Not only did this book keep me on the edge of my seat, but it also taught me something about history that I didn’t know before.
