My Experience for Yertle the Turtle and Other Stories

Lloyd Kaufman

Once upon a time, there lived a Yertle the Turtle. He was not like other turtles – he had grand dreams. Every day he would watch the stars twinkle in the night sky and dream of what it would be like to be king of the pond.

One day, he hatched a plan. He summoned all his friends to gather around him so that he could build a throne atop their backs. He wanted to rule over the pond, but none of them wanted to help him. That’s when Yertle came up with a clever solution: he used his own shell as a step stool!

Soon enough, Yertle was ruling from atop his throne and all of the other animals in the pond had to obey his every command. But Yertle wasn’t satisfied. He kept adding more turtles to his throne so that he could reach even higher heights!

But this plan soon backfired on him. Eventually, Yertle was balancing precariously at such a height that one little burp from Mack caused him to come crashing down into the mud below. All of his subjects cheered and celebrated their newfound freedom!

And so, Yertle learned an important lesson – sometimes your dreams are too big for you to handle!

How to Teach Your Kids Life Lessons Through Yertle the Turtle and Other Stories

Yertle the Turtle and Other Stories by Dr. Seuss is a great way to teach your kids valuable life lessons. This book contains three stories which focus on themes such as cooperation, humility, and respect for others. Each story features characters that children can relate to, such as Yertle the turtle, Mack the mouse, and Gertrude McFuzz.

The first story, “Yertle the Turtle”, teaches about humility and cooperation between different classes of society. In this story, King Yertle attempts to build a throne by stacking turtles on top of each other. However, his ambition leads to failure when one of these turtles refuses to cooperate.

The second story, “Gertrude McFuzz”, focuses on self-acceptance and understanding our limitations. Gertrude McFuzz wants to have beautiful feathers like her friend Lolla-Lee-Lou but she comes to understand that it is more important to be content with who you are.

The final story in this collection is “The Big Brag”. This tale emphasizes how pride can lead to failure. The main character of this story, a rabbit named Hugh McBuster, boasts about his many accomplishments until he is outdone by a small mouse named Mack.
