My Experience for Such a Fun Age by Kiley Reid

Lloyd Kaufman

I recently read Such a Fun Age by Kiley Reid and it has been one of the most memorable books I’ve read. It follows two characters, twenty-five year old Alix and Emira, a young black babysitter, as they navigate modern day racism at a grocery store. The story is handled with depth, humor and honesty; it was both thought-provoking and entertaining all at once.

The book was such an emotional roller coaster ride! There were moments when I wanted to laugh out loud, others that made me angry and still others that made me cry. It’s an important story of race relations in America today and the way that even well-intentioned people can get it wrong. It gave me a better understanding of how racism affects our lives every day and how we can do better as individuals.

Kiley Reid writes with such vivid detail that I felt like I was right there with Alix and Emira. She masterfully created a world where racism is normal but also has hope for change. I could feel the tension between the two characters as they tried to make sense of what was happening around them.

Overall, Such a Fun Age by Kiley Reid is an excellent book that should be on everyone’s reading list. It is full of thoughtful insights about racism in our society and shows us how we can all be part of the solution. 3. Lack of resolution: The novel ends without resolving many of its conflicts and questions, leaving readers feeling unsatisfied.
4. Heavy topics: Such a Fun Age deals with difficult topics such as race, class, and privilege, which can be uncomfortable for some readers to explore.
