Step 1: Gather your friends. Invite up to four of your friends or family members over for a night of Dutch Blitz. You’ll need one deck of Dutch Blitz cards per person.

Step 2: Deal out the cards. Shuffle each deck and deal out 10 cards face down to each player in a clockwise direction. Place the remaining cards in a pile on the table; this will be the draw pile, which will come into play later.

Step 3: Create your Blitz Piles. Each player creates four “Blitz Piles” in front of them using their dealt cards. Sort these piles from left to right by number (1-10) and suit (diamonds, clubs, hearts, spades). The top card in each pile should be face up so you can see it.

Step 4: Start playing! The player with the lowest rank of diamonds goes first (Aces are low). On your turn, you must try and discard one card from your hand onto any pile on the table. You can only play one card at a time, but you can play it on any pile regardless of suit or rank. You may also pick up a card from any other player’s Blitz Pile if they have no more cards in that particular pile.

Step 5: Keep going! Once you have discarded a card, your turn is over and play passes clockwise around the table until all players have run out of cards in their hands. If at any point during the game all four Blitz Piles contain ten cards apiece, then all players must pick up their piles and start anew!
