Vicar of Dibley – The Complete Series 1 Pros and Cons

1. Pros
Vicar of Dibley: The Complete Series 1 is an absolute delight, featuring all six episodes from the first series and some extra special features! This DVD set is sure to bring hours of laughter and entertainment for any fan of the show.

The comedic writing of Richard Curtis and Paul Mayhew-Archer is top notch – delivering witty dialogue and unforgettable characters. From Geraldine’s (Dawn French) sweet naivety to David Horton’s (Gary Waldhorn) pompousness, each character brings their own unique charm to this classic British comedy.

The cast is also top-notch, with a wonderful performance by Emma Chambers as Alice Tinker and James Fleet as Hugo Horton. The supporting cast are equally great, adding to the humour and quirkiness of the show.

2. Cons
Despite the exceptional performances, Vicar of Dibley: The Complete Series 1 isn’t without its flaws. As with most British comedies, the humor can be quite dated and may not appeal to all viewers. Additionally, some viewers may find the religious elements of the show off-putting or overly preachy at times.

Moreover, while there are some nice extras included in this set such as interviews with Dawn French and other cast members, it would have been nice if there were more behind-the-scenes clips or commentaries included as well.

I’ve been a fan of Vicar of Dibley since it first aired back in 1994. The series follows the life of Geraldine Granger, the new female vicar of a small rural village named Dibley. She is full of fun and enthusiasm, which often clashes with the quaint customs and traditions of her parishioners.

What I don’t Like

1. Not all episodes are available in high definition.
2. Only contains the first series of the show.
3. The boxset does not include any extras or special features.
4. The sound quality is not as good as modern releases.
5. The video quality is outdated and grainy compared to current releases.
