My Experience for The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian
I am a Part-Time Indian, and I could write a book about my life! It all started when I decided to leave the rez and attend an all-white high school. My friends thought I was crazy, but I knew it was the best decision for me.
When I walked into the hallways of Reardan High, I felt like an alien. Everyone stared at me like I had two heads! But then something amazing happened. A girl named Penelope Beaver walked up to me and said, “Hi! Want to be friends?”
Penelope was my first real friend at Reardan High. She taught me so much about being brave and not taking bullying from anyone. We even created our own club called “The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian Club.” Every week we’d get together and talk about our lives on the rez and how we were adjusting to life in Reardan.
Our club was also popular among other students at the school. They’d come in and share their stories with us. It was amazing how everyone connected over our shared experiences. We even began writing stories together – some funny, some sad – that reflected our own lives as Part-Time Indians.
It’s been a few years since I left the rez, but I still carry The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian with me wherever I go. It reminds me that no matter where life takes me, I will always have great friends by my side who understand what it means to be a Part-Time Indian.
What I don’t Like
1. Contains mature themes: This book delves into some mature topics such as racism, poverty, and bullying, which may not be appropriate for everyone.
2. Some language is strong: The protagonist’s language is often blunt and honest, and can be offensive to some readers.
3. May not be suitable for all ages: While the book does address important issues related to coming-of-age experiences, it may not be suitable for younger readers due to its content and language.
4. Not everyone will understand: Some of the humor in this book requires a certain level of understanding of Native American culture, which not everyone will have access to.
