My Experience for American History X

Ray Cooley

I was skeptical when I first bought American History X. After all, it’s not like there are a lot of violent neo-Nazi stories that show up in the movies. But I’m so glad I did!

The movie is an incredible exploration of hate and redemption. It follows the story of Derek Vinyard, an ex-convict who has been released from jail after serving time for murdering two black men. His brother Danny watches as he struggles to turn his life around, but his old values and beliefs keep getting in the way.

American History X is powerful and raw. It asks hard questions about racism and violence, with no easy answers. The acting is also excellent – Edward Norton gives a stunning performance as Derek, and Fairuza Balk does an amazing job as his sister, Danny.

Overall, American History X is an intense and thought-provoking movie about race, identity and forgiveness. If you’re looking for something different than your typical Hollywood blockbuster, then this is the perfect film for you.

What I don’t Like

1. Violent Content: American History X contains graphic violence and explicit language that may be disturbing to some viewers.

2. Racially Charged Themes: The film tackles difficult racial issues and could be seen as potentially offensive to some viewers.

3. Lack of Closure: Some viewers may find the ending of American History X unsatisfying or overly open-ended.

4. Controversial Scenes: There are several controversial scenes in the film, including a scene involving a swastika being drawn on someone’s forehead and some other scenes which could be interpreted as promoting racism and hatred.

5. Accuracy Issues: Despite its attempt at realism, there are some inaccuracies in the film which may detract from its overall impact.
