My Experience for The Butter Battle Book
Once upon a time there was a Butter Battle between two families. The Yooks and the Zooks. They lived on either side of a river and had been arguing for years about which kind of butter was best: crunchy or smooth!
The Yooks were always trying to spread their crunchy butter over to the Zook’s side, and the Zooks would fight back with smooth butter. Soon enough the battle grew more fierce, with each side building bigger and better weapons to outsmart one another.
The Yooks had an impressive arsenal including butter-shooting guns, butter-flinging slingshots, and even a giant butter cannon. The Zooks weren’t far behind with their own inventions such as a butter-seeking missile, a butter tank, and a clam cannon.
Just when it seemed like the battle would never end, an old man stepped in to put an end to it. He suggested that instead of fighting they should just agree to disagree. And so they did, settling down to enjoy their respective butters in peace.
The moral of the story? Never underestimate the power of compromise!
What I don’t Like
1. Themes of violence. The Butter Battle Book deals with themes of violence by depicting a destructive war between two fictional countries, the Yooks and Zooks.
2. Adult themes. The book includes references to adult themes such as nuclear warfare and allusions to the Cold War.
3. Absent moral message. Some readers may take issue with the book’s lack of a clear moral message regarding the futility of war.
4. Tone. Many readers find the tone of the book too dark for young children.
