Despite all of the obstacles she faces, she never gives up and is constantly finding new ways to defy expectations.

The characters are vibrant and relatable; they really come alive on the page. I especially love how the author, Karen Cushman, manages to capture the nuanced emotions of each character. She captures the joys, fears, and anxieties of growing up in a way that only someone who has experienced it firsthand can do.
