My Experience for DearS Vol. 1
I had been looking for a book to get me out of my reading slump and DearS Vol. 1 by Peach-Pit did just that!
When I opened up the comic book, I was entranced by its vibrant art style, as it popped off the page with character designs that were both unique and lively. It was easy to get absorbed in this new world of aliens and humans living together. The story follows the main character Takeya, an average high school student who meets an alien called Ren who has crashed on Earth from her home planet.
The story is full of interesting characters, from the mysterious Ren, to Takeya’s overbearing best friend Neneko, who is always there to help him out. What I really enjoyed about DearS Vol. 1 was that it never took itself too seriously and had a lot of lighthearted moments mixed in with all the drama.
The plot twists kept me guessing and I found myself eagerly turning each page to find out what happened next. In the end, I was so glad that I chose this book because it was definitely worth the read.
What I don’t Like
1. Artwork is slightly dated and not as sharp as newer releases.
2. Some of the dialogue can feel a bit stiff and unnatural.
3. The character designs are very stylized, which may not be to everyone’s taste.
4. There are some plot holes that are left unresolved.
5. The pacing can be slow at times, especially in the first volume.
6. The series suffers from overly-simplistic characterization.
