I had heard about Quanah Parker and the Comanches in school, but hadn’t known much about them until I found _Empire of the Summer Moon: Quanah Parker and the Rise and Fall of the Comanches, the Most Powerful Indian Tribe in American History_.

I never expected to find such a captivating story! I was taken back in time as I read about Quanah’s rise to power as a fearless leader of the Comanches. The book follows him from his early years with his mother Cynthia Ann Parker — who was kidnapped by Comanches when she was only nine — through his wars against Texans, Mexicans, and finally US forces.

The narrative is filled with incredible details about Comanche culture, including their rituals and traditions. It also gives insight into some of the most famous battles in history, like the Battle of Adobe Walls.

_Empire of the Summer Moon_ is an amazing journey through history that will leave you wanting more. Not only did it give me a better understanding of the Comanches and their way of life, but it also made me appreciate how far they came in spite of extreme adversity. Highly recommended!
