You will need the Eldritch Horror board, 8 Ancient One sheets, 8 Investigator sheets, 12 Mystery cards, 4 Reference cards, 16 Research Encounter cards, 60 Adventure Encounter cards, 48 Unique Asset cards, 32 Spell cards, 24 Condition cards, 24 Artifact cards, 18 Rumor cards, 30 Monster tokens and 6 Dice.
Once you have gathered all your supplies, you are ready to begin! Start by setting up the board in the center of your play area. Then each player should choose an investigator and assign them their color token. Each player must also be given one reference card so they can refer to any rules during the game.
Next comes the exciting part: picking an Ancient One. Ask each player which Ancient One they would like to take on and then shuffle their sheet and randomly select one from the pile. Place each Ancient One sheet near its corresponding player.
Now it’s time to set up each players’ starting items such as money and assets. This is done by drawing two unique asset cards for each player and assigning them $4 in stocks. Players should also draw one item card (such as a weapon) from the deck of unique assets before beginning gameplay.
Players will now use the dice to determine who goes first. The highest roller will be the first player and play then continues clockwise around the table. During each turn players can perform three actions such as moving their character across locations on the board or using assets to help solve mysteries or defeat monsters.
The aim of Fantasy Flight Games EH01 Eldritch Horror is for players to work together as investigators in order to save humanity from whatever Ancient One has been chosen at the start of the game. As you play through each round players will face increasingly difficult challenges but if they are successful they will ultimately defeat their Ancient One and win the game!
