I recently discovered the amazing Gimme a Break! The Complete First Season and I’m completely hooked. Watching Nell Carter, Rosetta LeNoire, Kari Michaelson, Carlene Watkins and the other cast members on this show has been a total joy.

The show follows the story of Nell, an ex-nightclub singer who takes over as housekeeper for widowed police chief Carl Kanisky and his three daughters. It’s a classic comedy of errors with plenty of laughs, heartwarming moments and sweet family life lessons.

One of my favorite episodes is when Carl’s daughter Julie goes to her first school dance with her date, who turns out to be the son of Nell’s old singing partner. It’s hilarious seeing the two adults interact while trying to keep their past a secret from Julie and her date.
