Lloyd Kaufman

I never knew that the Hidden Figures were real people until I read this book. It was an eye-opening experience to see the incredible accomplishments of these African American women mathematicians who helped the U.S. win the space race against Russia in the 1960s!

The story starts with a young girl named Katherine Johnson, who became a brilliant mathematician, despite being born into a time when African Americans were not even allowed to attend certain schools. Despite all the obstacles she faced, Katherine went on to work for NASA and become one of their most important mathematicians.

Katherine’s story inspired me so much that I decided to learn more about her and the other remarkable black women mathematicians whose contributions have been overlooked until now.

Reading this book made me realize just how inspiring and powerful stories can be. It opened my eyes to the importance of recognizing these women’s achievements and I’m thankful that I got to learn about them in such a meaningful way.

What I don’t Like

Product Disadvantages:
1. Lack of an in-depth analysis of the context of the time period
2. Not comprehensive enough to cover the entire history
3. Narrative is too simplistic and not detailed enough
4. Does not include much information on the mathematical contributions made by the women featured
5. Limited coverage of the space race and its implications for both science and society
