My Experience for Honey & Spice: A Novel

Lloyd Kaufman

My love affair with Honey & Spice began in a most unexpected way. I was walking through the aisles of my local bookshop, when something caught my eye. It was Bolu Babalola’s debut novel, Honey & Spice.

I had never heard of this author before, but the blurb on the back cover intrigued me: “In nineteenth-century Nigeria, two sisters are torn apart by tradition and secrets as they search for their true selves.”

It sounded like an epic story—one I couldn’t wait to dive into! So, I decided to take a chance and buy it.

Little did I know that Honey & Spice would quickly become one of my all-time favorite books! The characters were so vivid and alive that I felt like I was living their stories alongside them. I laughed, gasped, and even cried at times!

But one of the best things about this book was its beautifully crafted writing style. With her words, Bolu Babalola took me on an unforgettable journey through 19th century Nigeria—a place where tradition clashes with modernity and nothing is quite what it seems.

If you’re looking for an engaging, thought-provoking read, look no further than Honey & Spice! You won’t regret it!
