My Experience for How Big Is a Foot? By Rolf Myller and Maurice Sendak

Lloyd Kaufman

When I was young, I used to ask my parents “how big is a foot?” They would often just shrug and not know what to say. Then one day, I stumbled upon How Big Is a Foot? By Rolf Myller and Maurice Sendak. This book changed the way I thought about feet forever!

The book starts off with a King who wants to make sure that all his furniture is the same size. He finds out that all the measurements he has been using are wrong, because no two feet are exactly the same size. So he decides to make up his own measurement called “the royal foot”.

My favorite part of the story is when the King meets an old tailor who comes up with an ingenious solution. He explains to the King that a foot is whatever size you decide it is! This made me realize that anything can be measured in many different ways, and that it’s all up to your imagination.

I love this book because it teaches children important lessons, while also being incredibly funny and entertaining. The illustrations by Maurice Sendak are simply amazing and bring the story to life. It’s definitely a must-read for all ages!

What I don’t Like

Product Disadvantages:
1. Short story length may not fully capture young readers’ interest.
2. Some of the illustrations are outdated and might be confusing for younger readers.
3. No real plot development, which might put off some readers looking for a more engaging story.
4. Some of the metric measurements used in the story may be unfamiliar to some readers or require additional explanation.
5. The book does not provide any discussion questions or activities to explore, so it could be difficult for teachers or parents to use this book as an educational tool.
