My Experience for A Long Walk to Water – Based on a True Story

Lloyd Kaufman

I had always been fascinated by the water crisis in Africa, so I was really excited when I picked up A Long Walk to Water – Based on a True Story. Little did I know that this book would take me on an incredible journey through the eyes of two children who live in different parts of Sudan.

The story follows Nya, an 11-year-old girl who walks 8 hours every single day to fetch water for her family, and Salva, a boy who is forced to flee his home during the Second Sudanese Civil War. Both of their stories are incredibly powerful and emotionally charged.

Through the pages of A Long Walk to Water, I found myself connecting with the characters and understanding their struggles even more than before. The book’s vivid descriptions of drought, poverty and displacement made me feel like I was walking alongside them. With each chapter, my heart ached a little bit more until it all came together in a way that left me feeling inspired and hopeful.

At its core A Long Walk to Water is a story about resilience in the face of adversity, making it one of the most touching books I have ever read. It’s also an important reminder that no matter how difficult our own lives may be, there are people all over the world facing far greater challenges than us.

What I don’t Like

1. The story is told from two perspectives, making it difficult to follow for younger readers.
2. The book has a dark and serious tone, which may not be suitable for younger children.
3. Some of the events in the story, such as violence and death, are disturbing.
4. The language is sometimes difficult to understand for those with limited reading experience.
5. The book does not contain any illustrations or photographs, which may make it less interesting to some readers.
