My Experience for Mars Rover Curiosity: An Inside Account from Curiosity’s Chief Engineer
I am Rob Manning, Chief Engineer of Curiosity Rover. I have been working on this project for more than ten years and have seen every step of its journey to Mars.
When I first heard about the mission, I was beyond excited. I knew that this was a chance to make history, and I was determined to do whatever it took to get Curiosity safely to its destination.
The first few months were spent designing and building the rover. We had to make sure that every part of the rover would be strong enough to survive the harsh environment of Mars. It was a tremendous amount of work, but we stayed up late nights and worked hard until we finished.
Finally, after months of planning, we launched Curiosity into space in November 2011. As soon as it left Earth’s atmosphere, I felt an incredible sense of accomplishment.
It was incredible to watch Curiosity make its way across our solar system and land on the surface of Mars in August 2012. For me, it was like watching a dream come true before my eyes!
Since then, Curiosity has been exploring the Martian terrain and sending us back amazing images and data. Every time I see something new from Curiosity, I’m filled with wonder and awe at what this incredible machine is capable of doing!
