My Experience for Sylvester and the Magic Pebble

Lloyd Kaufman

Once upon a time, there was a donkey named Sylvester. He had a Magic Pebble that could make any wish come true.

One day, while out walking in the woods, it began to rain. Sylvester ran for cover and wished he had an umbrella. All of a sudden, he remembered his Magic Pebble, and so he reached into his pocket and pulled it out. He made a wish for an umbrella and sure enough, one appeared in his hand!

Sylvester was so excited that he decided to keep on wishing. He wished for some new shoes, then some candy, and then even a magic carpet. With each wish, his dreams came true!

Sylvester soon learned that with great power comes great responsibility. So he started using his Magic Pebble to help others too! He helped the birds build their nests by providing them with twigs; he watered the flowers when they were thirsty; and he gave food to the animals when they were hungry.

The more Sylvester used it, the more he realized how special his Magic Pebble really was. Little did he know that this pebble would become legendary!

What I don’t Like

1. Heavy on fantasy: The story is fantastical, so it may be difficult for some young children to connect with.
2. Limited educational value: This picture book does not have a lot of educational content and is more focused on entertainment than teaching.
3. Moral ambiguity: The moral of the story can be interpreted in different ways, which may confuse younger readers.
4. Slow pacing: The story can be a bit slow moving at times, so it may not hold the attention of some kids.
