My Cousin Vinny, starring Joe Pesci in the title role, is an absolute classic. It’s a witty and heartwarming story about two young New Yorkers who find themselves in over their heads when they get into some legal trouble in the deep south. From the minute you start watching this film, you can tell that it’s something special.
The movie follows Vinny Gambini (Pesci) as he attempts to defend his cousin Bill (Ralph Macchio) and friend Stan (Mitchell Whitfield) after they are arrested for murder. With no experience as a lawyer, Vinny must rely on his street smarts and quick wit to prove their innocence. Along the way, he faces off against an old-fashioned judge (Fred Gwynne), a Southern prosecutor (Austin Pendleton), and a small town jury who aren’t quite sure what to make of him.
Joe Pesci is absolutely hilarious in this role – his comedic timing is spot-on, and his sarcastic one-liners will have you laughing out loud throughout the entire movie. He does a great job of portraying an outsider trying to fight for justice in an unfamiliar environment. His chemistry with Marisa Tomei (who won an Oscar for her performance as Mona Lisa Vito) is also fantastic – they really bring out the best in each other.
