My Experience for The Troop by Nick Cutter

Lloyd Kaufman

I was never one for camping or outdoor activities, but my friends convinced me to join them on a weekend trip to the woods. Little did I know that I was about to experience something much more sinister than any of us could have imagined.

We had just set up camp when we heard a blood-curdling scream coming from the nearby forest. We all froze in place, and then saw three terrified children running towards our campsite. They told us about a horrific creature that was hunting them, and how they’d been able to escape by barely a hair’s breadth.

Before we had time to process what was going on, the creature appeared out of the darkness. It was huge and menacing, with red eyes and razor sharp claws. We had no idea what it was or where it came from, but one thing was clear: we were not safe here.

That’s when I remembered I had brought The Troop, Nick Cutter’s classic horror novel, with me on this trip. We used it as our guidebook as we fought off the creature and tried to survive until morning. With its help, we were able to find a way out of the woods and make it home safely.

Since then, I’ve kept The Troop close at hand whenever I’m out in the wilderness—just in case!
