My Experience for White Oleander

Ray Cooley

I fell in love with White Oleander the moment I saw it! It was one of those movies that just spoke to me – the story of a young girl, Astrid (played by Robin Wright Penn), and her mother’s journey through life amidst tragedy. The movie is based on Janet Fitch’s acclaimed novel of the same name and follows Astrid as she navigates foster homes, struggles with abandonment and learns to find her own way in the world.

One of my favorite moments in the movie is when Astrid visits her mother in prison. This scene really resonated with me because it speaks to how powerful love can be even in difficult circumstances. Even though her mother had betrayed her trust, Astrid still loved and respected her.

The cast is great; besides Robin Wright Penn, you also have Alison Lohman playing the younger version of Astrid, Renée Zellweger, Michelle Pfeiffer, and many more talented actors. The movie was directed by Peter Kosminsky and it does a fantastic job of bringing Janet Fitch’s novel to life on screen.

If you’re looking for an emotionally-charged drama that will leave you feeling inspired, then White Oleander is definitely the movie for you!
